Essential oils can be safely used to enhance wellbeing and supporting a healthy lifestyle. Millions of people use essential oils daily, most of them without incident. However, although essential oils are natural, it doesn't mean that they can be use without precautions. Essential oils are powerful substances, the essential oil in a bottle is 50-100 times more concentrated than in the plant that are derived from. They can be harmful if not used with due care and diligence.
Topical Use and dilution
Do not apply undiluted essential oil to your skin. This can be harmful and potentially cause severe irritation or sensitization. Undiluted use of (Lavender Lavandula angustifolia) & Tree Tea (Melaleuca alternifolia) tend to be safe for acute conditions such as acne, minor cut, burn, insect bites. Apart from this, proper dilution with carrier oil is always recommendation based on purpose served and different age group.
Eyes
Avoid contacts with eyes. Essential Oils should not be apply to the eyes.
Oral Ingestion
The medical oral use of essential oils should be done under strict medical supervision, It is improper and dangerous to take essential oil internally unless prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner. The International Federation of Aromatherapist also advises against this method of application.
Contraindications
If you have a skin condition, are pregnant, have epilepsy or asthma, are on a course of treatment with prescribed medication, or are in any doubt about any condition you may have, you are advised to seek the advice of a doctor or suitable practitioner before using pure essential oils.
Infants and Children
Infants, toddlers, and young children are more sensitive to the potency of essential oils. Certain essential oils should either be avoided or used in lower dosage and highly diluted form. As a safety precaution, essential oils should always be kept out of reach.
